How To Lose A Ton Of Weight? Try The Elephant Diet

Elephants at the San Diego Zoo and Wild Animal Park are slimming down. The seven elephants have collectively lost more than five tons of fat since 2000.

Never has the big boned excuse been more accurate, but the elephants at the San Diego Zoo and Wild Animal Park no longer need it. They're slimming down as part of a nutrition and exercise routine.

"They haven't really been on a diet per say cause they still get the same amount of food, but we've changed the way we offer the food to them," explained Senior Elephant Keeper Ron Ringer.

By using a series of toys and techniques, the keepers at the zoo are making the elephants work harder for their food - even training them to take laps.

I wonder if this trick would work on obese pets too?  Maybe you could create an automatic feeder that requires them to run a few laps around it before it dispenses the food.  Then, like the elephants, your pets would be less bored AND less overweight.

Many trainers say dogs should go for at least a 30-60 minute walk, or other types of exercising (bike-jorring, scootering, skate-jorring, etc.) before eating. I think it makes sense for all domesticated and captive animals!

That makes sense to me, too. :) Have you ever read Cesar Milan's books
or watched his show? He makes those same recommendations.

Who would have thought that what elephants eat would be the best diet. Now that is a lot of weight lost.

  4. Does it work on human too?
