College Students Find Comfort In Their Pets During Hard Times

File this article under "Obvious."  :)   There is plenty of anecdotal evidence around to support the suggestion that people in general are happier when they have pets.  Who wouldn't be happier with another creature living with them in harmony, providing them with unconditional love and company?

"Duh" factor aside, maybe this study will encourage more universities to provide students with housing that allows them to have pets.  What if pets decreased mental illness in students?  What if it decreased drop out rates?  If students didn't have to worry about constantly finding housing that allowed pets, maybe college towns would see a decrease in abandoned pets.  In the end, maybe a university that accommodates pet-owning students will solve more problems than it creates.

A new study suggests that college students may handle stressful situations better if they have a pet.

Research has already shown that pets can improve the quality of life for people who are aging or those who are chronically ill.  But researchers at Ohio State University recently found that many college students may also benefit from owning a cat or a dog.
