Glimmer of hope for rare monkey

A new sub-population of a Critically Endangered species of monkey has been recorded in north-western Vietnam.

Biologists from Fauna and Flora International said they had found up to 20 Tonkin snub-nosed monkeys in a remote forest.

The team said the new group offered a ray of hope because it included three infants, suggesting that the monkeys were breeding and increasing in number.

Until now, fewer than 250 of the primates were thought to exist.

In "these troubled times" (drink)*, it's nice to know that a few endangered species are growing in number.  Now we just need to increase the protections for the Tonkin snub-nosed monkeys' remaining habitats - otherwise, they're probably still doomed.

By the way, have you heard of the "these troubled times" drinking game?  Every time you hear someone say a phrase that sounds something like, "these troubled times," especially in reference to the national or global economy, drink something.  I'm sipping tea as I write this.  My cat is sipping water out of one of my cups.  She dislikes drinking out of her bowl.  Cups are more civilized.
