No matter what kind of day John was having, Pumpkin was there to cheer him up.
"Every time I came home, it was almost like you could see a smile on her face," said the Centereach man about his black cocker spaniel mix. "The unconditional love that you get, it makes you feel young. And when you're down, they bring you up. And when you're up, they make life better anyway."
[...]But when the mortgage banking crisis hit, John lost his livelihood, then lost his home to foreclosure. He's now moving to a small apartment, one that doesn't allow dogs. So he had to lose Pumpkin, too.
