Her article was inspired by the video embedded below. I have to warn you that the content may be (probably should be, if you are capable of empathizing with other living beings) upsetting - the video shows a dog being run over several times on a highway. Then another dog braves the oncoming traffic to drag the injured dog out of the road. Watch it, and then read Shankar's excellent commentary.
