Everyone in my family except my dad (and maybe even my dad) is allergic to dogs or cats or rabbits or all three - yet we still keep multiple pets in the house! We take allergy medicine frequently and just accept the this inconvenience as a trade-off that comes with keeping a few unusually furry family members around. I can't imagine giving up my pets, no matter how badly my allergies make me suffer (which, for now, isn't very badly at all). After all, aren't you supposed to make sacrifices for the things you love?
A close friend of mine is a prime example of this. She has some of the worst allergies I've ever seen. She's constantly sneezing and blowing her nose and has tried nearly every allergy medicine on the market to no avail, but she would never, ever get rid of her cat. She loves it too much.
What about you? Have you ever had to make a tough decision about your pets for health-related reasons? What do you think about it? Read this article and think about it:
It started with sinus congestion for Shawna Coronado. Then the splitting migraines came. Coronado soon discovered the furry causes: Harrington and Kalamazoo.
Her 30-pound pug and orange tabby scattered dead skin flakes around the house, triggering Coronado's allergic reactions. Her two daughters are also allergic, but their reactions are less severe.
Like the 10 million American pet owners with allergies, the Coronados faced a dilemma: Can human and dog co-exist in the same house?
"We love them," said Coronado about her family's pets. "They're adorable. They're really our babies. They're part of the family. We could never live without them."

HA! I think you definitely made the right decision.
I don't have allergies myself, but I've had girlfriends that did and some of them actually wanted me to get rid of my cats so it would help prevent their reactions. Yeah right! Boy the look on their face when they are told that you would rather keep the cat then keep them. Priceless!
