Do you think this is just lip service?  I’m afraid it may be.  Nonetheless, I’m hoping for the best for our endangered friends!

Governments should use a forthcoming conservation meeting to increase protection for endangered species ranging from cheetahs to dolphins, UN officials and NGOs said today.

Representatives of more than 100 governments will gather in Rome on Monday to discuss a boost in measures for nearly 30 species threatened by pollution, climate change and over-hunting.

The meeting of the UN-backed  will last through December 5.

“Species that migrate across countries and continents are facing ever greater hurdles from loss of habitat and feeding grounds to unsustainable use and the unfolding and often complex threats emerging from climate change,” said Achim Steiner, director of the UN Environment Program.
