How to plant a forest from Chronicle Project on Vimeo.
Everything on earth, living and non-living, affects everything else on earth, even in distant, infinitesimally small ways. The deforestation shown in this video provides a sad illustration of the interconnected and interdependent nature of life: cutting down too many trees destroys entire ecosystems, forcing animals to leave their habitats and forcing humans to scrounge in the dirt for the most meager of existences.
You see, we can't focus our efforts on "saving" just the trees, or just the animals, or just people. We need to focus on the big picture and work toward holistic solutions to the earth's problems.
Deforestation is the reason why many animals are endangered or extinct, including orangutans. Did you know that I'm organizing a benefit concert to raise money for Orangutan Outreach to help save orangutans? Well, now you know. I'm super excited about the event because we think we'll be able to raise at least $1,000. The Orangutan Outreach Benefit Concert is taking place in Tuscaloosa, AL and features a bunch of awesome bands and local businesses as sponsors. Let me know if you'd like more information about it or would like to contribute to its success by emailing me at email@kittymowmow.com. You can find out more about Orangutan Outreach, how orangutans are threatened by deforestation, and how you can help them by going to redapes.org.
I really like what Eden Reforestation Projects has set out to accomplish. You can find more information about them at their website, www.edenprojects.org.
I found out about Eden Reforestation Projects at the 2008 Blog World Expo when I met Brent Gudgel, a super nice guy and one of the film directors at Chronicle Project (www.chronicleproject.org). Chronicle Project made the video you just watched (I hope you watched it - it's pretty nifty).
Your assignment: go plant a tree. Better yet, plant an entire forest.
