Baby kissing and hand shaking move over. Tail wagging is now officially on the stump. Amidst the barrage of news on the 2008 presidential election, is another kind of campaign message, delivered by television actor and veteran stand up comic Richard Belzer. He’s now Uncle Sam, star of a life-saving campaign, “We Want You… To Adopt,” assuming the compelling glare of the iconic 1916 recruitment poster. The centerpiece of a national shelter animal adoption Public Service Announcement (PSA) from North Shore Animal League America, Belzer’s portrayal of the patriotic figure, seeking sign-ups to take a homeless animal into their lives, is now also featured on the all-America human billboard, the t-shirt.
