Done fishing? Don’t toss the line: Recycling program helps keep animals from getting injured

Anglers in this county have recycled enough fishing line in two years to stretch from Longboat Key to Daytona Beach, saving the limbs and lives of birds, manatees and sea turtles that might have been snagged had the fishing line remained in the water.

Sarasota County and Mote Marine Laboratory are pushing for the program's expansion to gather even more monofilament fishing line.

Recycling bins, made of PVC pipe, are now available from the county for marinas and other popular private fishing areas.

  2. It really is indeed very important that we are responsible enough to recycle our own fishing lines every after doing this sport. If we have enjoyed it so much we should also allow the smaller creatures living in it, enjoy the environment as much as we did.
