Rev. Scott Hawker has always been interested in conducting a Blessing of the Pets ceremony.
As the pastor at the Friedens United Church of Christ, located at 207 East Center St. in Troy, where he has served for more than four years, he knew of the ceremony at other churches.
"My wife was at a church in Missouri and they had a blessing of the pets in the sanctuary," he said. "But when I suggested it, it just never really caught on."Finally the idea took shape when Donna Bingham, a member of the church who became the coordinator for the event, suggested the blessing take place in a park.
