
If you're 60 or older, you can adopt a dog or cat from the Canyon County Animal Shelter for just $5, whether you live in the county or not.
County commissioners voted unanimously Monday morning to put the price cut into effect immediately. Adoptions normally cost $45 per cat or $77.50 per dog.
The move aims to ease crowding at the shelter and make it easier for people on fixed incomes to get animal companions. It was suggested by a Caldwell senior citizen who dropped by to talk to commissioners this spring.
