Golden Eagle cured of lead poisoning

Nolan the golden eagle arrived at Blue Mountain Wildlife on March 3 displaying classic lead-poisoning signs: A low hanging head, a crouched body, lack of coordination, very thin, weak, and clenched talons.

Nolan was named after the location where he was found, near Nolin, a ranch headquarters southeast of Echo, said Blue Mountain Wildlife Director Lynn Tompkins.

"He is a very striking bird," Tompkins wrote in her online journal the day he arrived. "The golden color on the back of his head is almost white, yet the white in his tail indicates he is a young bird."

As far as she can tell, the white feathers on Nolan's head are not related to his sickness, Tompkins said.
