Columbia picks up ‘Animals’

I really, really hope this horror movie doesn't leave generations of people frightened to death of animals, the way "Jaws" made people even more afraid of sharks.

Columbia has picked up "Animals," a high-concept spec script by newcomer Mike Sobel. Neal Moritz is producing via his Original Films banner.

The horror thriller's central idea is that all the planet's animals turn on humans, from wild creatures to pets.

Trevor Engelson and Nick Osborne, who are executive producing, discovered Sobel, a former New York assistant district attorney who ditched his job and moved to Los Angeles a year ago to pursue a writing career. Engelson and Osborne helped Sobel develop the script and then brought it to Moritz.
