Those who despise zoos - and not just PETA, though the group did join the chorus - say the attack proves that animals are unhappy and that zoos should be phased out.
"The major problem with zoos is they put the entertainment value at a higher priority than the welfare or well-being of the animals," said Elliot Katz, president of In Defense of Animals, a Mill Valley animal rights group. "Because elephants and tigers are big draws, the zoo creates dangerous situations."
Katz helped organize the effort to get the elephants removed from the San Francisco Zoo after obtaining medical records that showed they were being mistreated. He said that both elephants and tigers need much more space than the zoo provides.

Hi Nachrishando,
I love tigers and think they are very beautiful, too.
Here’s a neat site about tiger conservation and how you can help save tigers from extinction: http://www.savethetigerfund.org/AM/Template.cfm?Section=Home1
And look at this stuffed tiger exhibit (not REAL stuffed tigers, but TOY stuffed tigers): http://www.stuffedzoo.com/Tigers-p-1-c-259.html?gclid=CN-m9tSevZMCFQ4hnAodlEi5Cg
Have a good day!
Tigers are big beautiful creatures. Its to bad that they’re endangered.

, and I HATE those tiger Poachers…. ,<<<< SICK PEOPLE
M&M
Hi Ashleigh,
I think tigers are wonderful too. Actually, so many of Kitty Mowmow’s Animal Expo readers have told me how much they love tigers that I’m working on making a podcast that’s all about tigers. Hopefully I’ll have it posted to the website by next week.
It’s a shame that the same qualities that make tigers so amazing are the qualities that make people want to hunt and kill them for their pelts and other body parts.
Hi M&M,
I think tigers are cute AND vicious.
Most wild animals are, from time to time. That’s ok, it’s just their nature.
I’m glad you like tigers – and dislike tiger poachers!
I don’t necessarily think zoos should be eliminated; because of all the encroachment and destruction we humans have done to these animals natural environments. Zoos are sometimes the only way we can save a species from total extinction. What I do believe needs to happen is much harsher regulations for zoo owners and their operations. A governing body formed to ensure these strict rules and regulations are upheld and that more serious fines or jail time is enforced to those who abuse the rules. The human race is the most destructive force on this beautiful planet, more than Mother Nature herself. We litter, enslave, abuse, destroy, assume, waste, control…need I go on? WE NEED TO CHANGE NOW!
I don’t think zoos are necessarily bad either, and I think they often do a lot of good things to help animals, like breeding endangered species.
Zoo regulation is mentioned in Wikipedia’s article on Zoos:
“Many countries have legislation to regulate zoos that requires these institutions to be licensed and inspected. Zoo regulation is usually supported by written standards relating to species, exhibits and management.
“In the United States, any public animal exhibit must be licensed and inspected by the United States Department of Agriculture, United States Environmental Protection Agency, Drug Enforcement Agency, Occupational Safety and Health Administration, and others. Depending on the animals they exhibit, the activities of zoos are regulated by laws including the Endangered Species Act, the Animal Welfare Act, the Migratory Bird Treaty Act of 1918 and others.[82] Additionally, zoos in North America may choose to pursue accreditation by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA). To achieve accreditation, a zoo must pass an application and inspection process and meet or exceed the AZA’s standards for animal health and welfare, fundraising, zoo staffing, and involvement in global conservation efforts. Inspection is performed by three experts (typically one veterinarian, one expert in animal care, and one expert in zoo management and operations) and then reviewed by a panel of twelve experts before accreditation is awarded. This accreditation process is repeated once every five years. The AZA estimates that there are approximately 2,400 animal exhibits operating under USDA license as of February 2007; fewer than 10% are accredited.
“In April 1999, the European Union introduced a directive to strengthen the conservation role of zoos, making it a statutory requirement that they participate in conservation and education, and requiring all member states to set up systems for their licensing and inspection.[84] Zoos are regulated in the United Kingdom by the Zoo Licensing Act of 1981, which came into force in 1984. The act requires that all zoos be inspected and licensed, and that animals kept in enclosures are provided with a suitable environment in which they can express most normal behavior.”
i love to say thanks.that ur going to save the and i prmossing you that one day i will also .a tiger lover
Photoshopped!!!!
You can tell with the pixels where the ear meets the head.
i like very much tigers .how many them left in the world
Tigers are symbols of pride for the entire cat fimily and their population in India is hovering around the 1500 mark. May be their population here has fallen in the same proportion as ours has increased!! But we just can’t afford this trend to continue coz we will be doing ourselves a lot of damage if tigers do become extinct. It’s something like we have to respect God and never forget Him no matter what we are going through.. Our countrymen and politicians should understand this and make heartfelt attempts to save this heritage of ours from being lost.. no matter what the political/worldly situation is.
Come on people!! Spread the message and focus on getting into the hearts of poachers!!
ari maung teh di urang mah dianggap karamat komo mun inget Prabu Siliwangi kamana wae so dibaturan ku meong…
Is this language Indonesian? I don't speak Indonesian.
Does
anyone want to translate for us?
elephants and tigers should hgave freedom and the zoo iznt da place 4 it
But what if the elephants and tigers are unsafe in the wild? Don't we
need a place and people to protect them and breed them to ensure their
existence, instead of extinction?
I quite agree, and zoos could serve as “reserve batteries”, if you like, and they could prove to be valuable supplies to forests if the scenario comes some day. (at least super-big zoos can simulate forests, if forests disapper too)
Yeah, let's just hope (and work towards ensuring) that day will never come.
Tigers are my fav animal EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
