Law enforcement, aided by humane society officials, broke up a cockfighting event in Chaparral Saturday night, resulting in the arrest of four people and the confiscation of 100 birds.
The Otero County Sheriff’s Department and the Attorney General’s Animal Cruelty Task Force, with assistance from Animal Protection of New Mexico and The Humane Society of the United States, raided the Otero Game Club’s “Christmas Derby” cockfighting event, according to a news release from the Humane Society.
