Today marks the 40th anniversary of Supreme Court Justice William O. Douglas’ historic visit to Kentucky’s Red River Gorge to publicize opposition to construction of the Red River Dam…

…The decade-long successful effort to save the Red River Gorge is a testament to the vision, tenacity and dedication of a relatively few conservationists who doggedly believed in their cause and convinced a Supreme Court justice to take up their fight.
